I propose to abolish the

to restore

With reference to your letter of the I have the honor to report that upon further consideration I have decided now that so much

leave has already expired to avail myself of the rest of it and not to return before its expiration as I had

With regard to my promotion I note with thanks that the Lordship promises to consider the matter in due time, I need not

shall be led by if it were found practicable to effect this

case is somewhat a hard

There is an appointment of Interpreter General & Chinese Secretary to the Governor's Office £1000 p.a. which has never been approved, it was proposed to pay this...

and Meanwhile Dr. Eitel draws £500 from it in addition to £500 as Inspector of Schools.
